About the CDI
CDI Mission
The Center for Digital Initiatives (CDI) is a gateway to digital resources at the University of Vermont. These include materials such as photographs and other images, historical diaries, letters, and documents, printed books and broadsides, audio and video clips, and records that exist only in digital formats. The Center builds signature collections for the global digital network, and serves as a resource for creating, preserving, and accessing digital content. The Center works with colleagues across the University to benefit teaching and research goals by providing state-of-the-art digitization equipment, infrastructure, services, and support. Collaborating with other academic, public, and research libraries, the Center provides access to digital collections for the study of Vermont. Staff of the CDI participate in the development of international standards for the creation, description, and discovery of digital content, to offer innovative applications for digitization services and collections.
About Our Funders
The University of Vermont Libraries established the Center for Digital Initiatives with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). A grant from IMLS in 2005-2007 enabled the Libraries to purchase hardware and software, hire a digital librarian, and build the Center’s first digital collections. The mission of IMLS is “to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.” For more information about IMLS and its programs, please visit http://www.imls.gov/about/about.shtm.
Information about funding for individual projects can be found on each project's home page.
This project is funded through the Institute of Museum and Library Services by an Act of Congress, in accordance with the FY 2006 Consolidated Appropriations Bill.
