Thank you for this letter. I am organizing an vast collection of the Henry Bridge Atherton Family Papers in order to make them ready for an appraisal and auction. Within these papers are many letters between Wheelock G. Veazey and Henry Bridge Atherton... They attended and graduated Dartmouth College (1859) together, and then Albany Law School (they roomed together). They were the greatest of friends - and included in their group was George W. Quimby and Redfield Proctor, and many others. This collection is huge. H.B.A. saved all his old letters from 1840-his death. They are in this collection. Since reading them all for over the past three years (working on this project) I can describe Wheelock Veazey as a "Teddy Roosevelt" of his generation. A great leader, brilliant and at the same time, thoughtful and kind...
