Beautiful, but isn't it the Crouching Lion? Le lion couchant, is French for the Crouching Lion, I think.

It was definitely referred to as the Couching Lion. We checked this one as it's not a term of everyday use. It derives from the verb couch, and means lying down lion.

The ridge in the background could be Mt Mansfield and may be superimposed on this image as there is no such ridge in the direction shown unless the image was printed in reverse in which case the view is to the south and the ridge is Mt Ethan Allen-Ira Allen which would make more sense.
