Dear Sir.

I send you the enclosed circular for yours and Mr Marshs signatures as committee -- I intend staying several weeks in New York and I may have an opportunity of collecting something for the patriotic cause.

Mr Baxter wrote me a month ago that he could not get at the layer of Statuary marble to work it until Spring. They have to work one layer at a time. -- He said he would then get it out for me if I wished. He will do his share I think if others do. I wish money enough could be got to commence upon the marble in the Spring. -- Are there any measures operating at present for procuring funds
