Dear Baird
A friend of mine who saw Mr Meredith on Saturday night says that Mr M. expressed surprise to learn that I wished for a foreign mission (or perhaps that I wished to go to Chili) from which I infer Mr Penrose has not found an opportunity of speaking to him on the subject. I certainly am -------------------------------- Page -------------------------------- [top line missing] Mr P. but if without letting him know that I have written you what passed between Mr M. & my friend, you could draw Mr P's attention to the subject by inquiring what he thinks of my prospects, as in some such way, you would greatly oblige me.
Mrs Marsh has been confined to her room for several days
Yours truly
G P M
