My Dear Marsh
I sent Longworth to the officer who issued the papers, calling on us to pay a portion of the forced Loan -- That officer sent my son to another officer in another part of the City who told him he must get a Stamped paper and write out a protest and get you to give a certificate that we were Citizens of the United States amp;c ampc --
My son brought the papers back--after saying that he would take no further trouble about the matter--for it was perfectly well known to the authorities here, that we were American Citizens--and the papers themselves--have the word "Americano" on them --
I thought it best to send the papers--where they came from -------------------------------- Page -------------------------------- after writing on the outside--
"Citizens of the United States are not responsible to this Claim --
