My father remembers riding on a snow roller as a boy. He grew up in Sutton,Vermont in the 20's and 30's. As a small child I remember a partially deteriorated snow roller in one of our pastures. The picture is definitely showing a snow roller. My father said they rolled the roads so that sleighs could get through and if they came to a covered bridge they would shovel a layer of snow onto the bridge floor so that the sleigh runners wouldn't stick.
