The Playhouse was built by my great-grandparents, Edith Barnes Sturgis and Sullivan Warren Sturgis in 1916. Edith had received the adjacent farmhouse and property as a wedding present from her father, John Sanford Barnes, who acquired it from a local farmer, Ransom H. Moore, in 1870. Edith had 4 children and performed plays and hosted musical gatherings in the building. We still call it the Playhouse today (2016).
