- Abstract: The James Hulme Canfield collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, speeches, notebooks from his professorship at the University of Kansas and family memorabilia. Of particular interest are letters from his daughter, Dorothy Canfield Fisher, and his wife, Flavia Camp Canfield, during trips to the family home in Vermont, and during two extended European trips.

Canfield, Jr. (1874-1964?), and those of the Hopkins family into which Canfield, Sr., married. The collection contains biographical and genealogical material for both families.

- Abstract: Lilian Baker Carlisle (1912- ) was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and has been an active contributor to Vermont's cultural political science as a state representative, lecturer and author. This collection consists of correspondence, papers and scrapbooks covering a broad range of topics, including material on the state bicentennial, Burlington area health services and Chittenden County historical interests.

- Abstract: The Hayden Carruth Papers contain over 50 linear feet of correspondence, writings, and various types of personal papers dating from 1923-1998. These materials document Carruth's childhood in Connecticut and New York, his early career in publishing, his work with James Laughlin and New Directions, and his teaching career at Syracuse University. The collection also extensively documents his writing career, primarily as a poet, but also as a critic and essayist.

- Abstract: Marshall Castle (1799-1875) represented the town of Essex in the General Assembly, and held other important offices of trust. The Marshall Castle papers include correspondence with family and townspeople, bills, receipts, notes, documents, land surveys, accounts and other papers. The collection contains materials from Marshall's father, Abel Castle, in addition to Marshall's papers.

- Abstract: Guy Catlin (1782-1853) moved to Vermont during the 1790's, joining his brother Moses in Burlington. Guy Catlin formed the Lake Champlain Steamboat Co., later Champlain Transportation Co., in 1813. In 1830, in partnership with his brother Moses, Guy erected the Burlington Flour Mill at Winooski Falls. Three years later the Winooski Manufacturing Co. was incorporated. The Guy Catlin papers contain family and business papers relating to Alexander Catlin of Litchfield, CT, Moses Catlin (1770-1842) of Litchfield and Burlington, VT, Guy Catlin of Burlington, and Lynde Catlin of New York City.

- Abstract: The Champlain Transportation Company was founded in October of 1826 in Burlington, Vermont and dominated transportation business on the lake throughout the nineteenth century. The Champlain Transportation Company Papers consist of a variety of manuscripts and photographs from the period 1824-1947. The letters pertain to all aspects of the company including daily business, passenger lists, specifications of new steamboats, finances, and employees. The photographs document both of Company steamboats and employees and officers.

- Abstract: The Herbert Wheaton Congdon Papers at UVM consist of six cartons, one box and hundreds of photographs and notecards. Much of the collection relates to Congdon's part in the Old Buildings Project and his later, individual work on early Vermont buildings. There are also papers, maps, glass slides and photos from Congdon's work on the Long Trail and the Green Mountain Club, as well as 36 volumes of his diaries and a typescript of his unpublished 1400-page autobiography.
