This collections contains a book of typescript poetry, much of it concerning Christmas, a 1950 travel journal, an audio tape of an interview from about 1960, information about his property, a letter regarding his induction into the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame, his resume, writings on medicine, and his obituary.

Included in this collection are manuscripts for some of Babcock's writings and radio and TV addresses, a collection of his writings on the Vermont legislature, “International Federalism”, and an address given to the Middlebury Conference.

- Abstract: George Clinton Cary (1864-1931) founded the Cary Maple Sugar Company, which eventually grew to a million-dollar business, in St. Johnsbury in 1904. Cary had to file for bankruptcy in 1931, but the bankruptcy did not affect his company since the liabilities were mainly due to accommodation endorsements on notes and papers of business concerns. The collection consists mainly of correspondence and financial and legal records relating to Cary's bankruptcy and estate.

- Abstract: Guy Catlin (1782-1853) moved to Vermont during the 1790's, joining his brother Moses in Burlington. Guy Catlin formed the Lake Champlain Steamboat Co., later Champlain Transportation Co., in 1813. In 1830, in partnership with his brother Moses, Guy erected the Burlington Flour Mill at Winooski Falls. Three years later the Winooski Manufacturing Co. was incorporated. The Guy Catlin papers contain family and business papers relating to Alexander Catlin of Litchfield, CT, Moses Catlin (1770-1842) of Litchfield and Burlington, VT, Guy Catlin of Burlington, and Lynde Catlin of New York City.

- Abstract: The Peake family arrived in the area that would become Addison County, Vermont, in 1779, when William Peake (1740-1813) moved with his family from Nantucket to the frontier town of Monkton. William's son Seth (1784-1827) settled in nearby Bristol in 1810 as a saddler and storekeeper, beginning more than a centry and a half of Peake residency in that community. The Peake Family Papers consist of approximately six linear feet of correspondence, bound manuscripts, diaries and other miscellaneous papers. The chronological span of the collection is from 1793 to 1955, with the heaviest concentration of material falling between 1840 and 1900.

- Abstract: Matthew Buckham, a UVM graduate, taught Greek, rhetoric, and English literature at UVM, before becoming president in 1871, he would serve until 1910, the longest tenure of any president.The collection consists of University of Vermont related correspondence dealing with such matters as the Agricultural Experimental Station, faculty appointments, and the donation of the Rush Hawkins Civil War book collection and sale of the Marsh book collection to the University of Vermont. Also included in the collection are a number of Buckham family papers, and a large collection of President Buckham’s baccalaureate sermons, lectures, and addresses.

- Abstract: Guy Winfred Bailey (1876-1940), born in Hardwick, Vermont, atttended UVM, graduating in 1900 and was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1904. A member of the Vermont Legislature from 1904 to 1906, he was elected Vermont Secretary of State in 1908 until he resigned in 1917 to join the university administration as comptroller. Already a Trustee since 1914 and acting president from August 1919, he was elected in 1920 to the presidency and remained in office until his death in 1940. Most of the records are arranged chronologically by year and then alphabetically by author/subject within years, plus a number of series on special topics such as the Bailey Memorial Project and the James B. Wilbur correspondence.

- Abstract: Torrey was appointed professor of Greek and Latin at UVM in 1827. In 1842, after the death of James Marsh, he became professor of moral philosophy. He served as President of the University from 1862-1866. The ecords document a number of historically important developments at the university, including the effort to raise funds in support of it. The correspondence files contain letters over the duaration of Torrey's long association with the university as faculty and then president. Much of this collection is not related to Torrey's tenure at the University of Vermont as professor and president, but to his personal life.

- Abstract: Sadie L. White (1901-1999), a long-time resident of Burlington’s Old North End, worked in the Winooski Woolen Mill from her late teens until it closed in 1954. She then increased her political activities and served as State Representative for Burlington District 4 1966-1980, and 1983-1984, and served as City Councilor (Alderman) for District 4 1981-1982. Her papers document her efforts to change the route of the Burlington Beltline highway and to advocate for the needs of the elderly and poor in her neighborhood and in Vermont.
