Abstract: Dr. Lyman Allen, 1872-1961, served on the faculty of the College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, was professor of Surgery at UVM, chief of Surgery at the Mary Fletcher Hospital, and attending surgeon at the Mary Fletcher, DeGoesbriad Memorial, and Fanny Allen Hospitals. This collections contains a book of typescript poetry, much of it concerning Christmas, a 1950 travel journal, an audio tape of an interview from about 1960, information about his property, a letter regarding his induction into the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame, his resume, writings on medicine, and his obituary.
Spear Family

Abstract:  Richard Spear (1737 - 1788) moved to Shelburne, Vermont, from Braintree, Massachusetts, in the summer of 1783. He died five years later, but his sons Asahel (1778 - 1849) and Elhanan W. Spear (1782 - 1869) remained in Shelburne and raised families there. The Spear Family Papers contain an interesting variety of manuscripts from the 1790s to the 1940s.

The collection also contains clippings of reviews of Hewitt's work, clippings of poems which he thought worthwhile to keep, published accounts of his social and official actions, and two boxes of literary autographs.

Abstract:  The Walter Hard Papers consist of three cartons and one box of manuscripts, newpaper clippings and printed material. Mr. Hard's writings dominate the collection, in the form of clippings of his newspaper columns, drafts of his plays and stories, typescripts and manuscripts of his poems, and different versions of several of his books.

Abstract: The Hayden Carruth Papers contain over 50 linear feet of correspondence, writings, and various types of personal papers dating from 1923-1998. These materials document Carruth's childhood in Connecticut and New York, his early career in publishing, his work with James Laughlin and New Directions, and his teaching career at Syracuse University. The collection also extensively documents his writing career, primarily as a poet, but also as a critic and essayist.
