The Henry A. Bailey papers were donated by his wife, Consuelo Northrop Bailey on July 16, 1969, at Burlington.
Biography
Henry A. Bailey was born in Winooski on January 22, 1893. He was educated at Burlington High School, University of Vermont (Ph.B. and M.A.) and Harvard Law School (LL. B.). Bailey was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from Colchester (1921-1922), from Winooski (1923-1924) and first mayor of Winooski in 1922. As a state senator (1929-1931), he was chairman of the Committee on Corporations and Franchises, and a member of the Committees on Educational Institutions, Military Affairs, Judiciary, Mileage and Debentures and Municipal Corporations. He continued to practice law in the Burlington area until his death in 1961.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains correspondence, essays by Bailey, legal briefs and notes, newspaper clippings and a large body of title abstracts. The papers have been arranges by type, and chronologically within each group. The title abstracts have been arranged alphabetically by town.
