History
The Lyric Theatre for the Performing Arts was founded in 1974. It was brought together by a community group of 30, dedicated to the production of musical theater. Howard Delano, one of the founders, had been usher at the Flynn in his youth and he convinced Merrill Jarvis to allow Lyric use the Flynn's facilities. The Lyric debut play was performed in May 1974: a production of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Since then Lyric has been presenting at least two Broadway musical comedies a year. The Lyric Theatre now has 480 working members, and all work on a volunteer basis.
Scope and Content
The Lyric Theatre Collection includes mainly financial records of the business manager, bank statements, canceled checks, and programs from play productions. The financial records are arranged alphabetically by type. The bank statements and canceled checks are arranged chronologically. The programs are also arranged chronologically, except one program that is missing: "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
