Acquisition Note
The Military Order of the Loyal Legion Papers were a gift from the Order, circa 1965.
Historical Note
The Military Order of the Loyal Legion was established as a veteran fraternal organization dedicated to military and patriotic concerns in 1865. The Vermont Commandery was disbanded in 1955.
Scope and Content Note
The Military Order of the Loyal Legion Papers contains correspondence, printed material, drafts of speeches, records and record books, newspaper clippings, photographs and memorabilia. The correspondence in cartons one and two is arranged chronologically, the topical material in carton three is arranged alphabetically and the reports are arranged chronologically. Much of the material relates to social and historical events sponsored by the Order of other similar groups. The most important event noted was the Lake Champlain Tercentennary Celebration in 1909. Materials from other chapters in the United States are included in the papers.
