Speech Files 1892-1956Scope and ContentThe Speech Files are arranged chronologically and housed in four file drawers. They includes speeches, statements, and writings by Austin together with relevant correspondence and other background material. Austin maintained this file to preserve his own public remarks, and to provide an extensive research file for future speeches and writings. Austin has provided a partial card index to this file which is fairly complete through 1946. |

United Nations Period and After 1946-1963Scope and ContentThe U.N. series, boxes 30 through 66, includes correspondence, notes, reports and drafts, press releases, memoranda, clippings, printed matter, published material and personal memorabilia. It is arranged alphabetically by person and topic. Loose single items which have been gathered together under a letter of the alphabet usually contain only printed matter. The papers in the larger categories such as Korea, U.N. Headquarters and U.N. Charter, have been arranged alphabetically or chronologically as determined by content or original order. The Korea papers have a distinctly topical character, and have been arranged by subject, whereas U.N. Headquarters material required a chronological arrangement. In general, where a specific topic applied, it has not been used. For example, General Assembly material which refers to Korea or the special "Essentials of Peace" session has been filed with these topics, but where it refers to general topics such as seating, voting, etc. it has been placed with the broad topic General Assembly. Published material, desk calendars, and some notebooks which relate to the U.N. years can be found in group six. |
