Donated by the City of Burlington, July, 1988
Scope and Content
This is a preliminary description of the records that the City of Burlington donated to the Wilbur Collection in July 1988. Arrangement and sorting of the collection is approximately three-quarters completed, with all of the papers unfolded, cleaned or repaired if necessary, assigned to a portion of the collection based on subject or department of town/city government, and placed in labeled acid-free folders. The collection fills 14 Paige cartons. What remains to be done is to put the papers in chronological order within each category (in a few categories approximately half of the papers are already in order by year) and to write up a final inventory for the collection. As the following category-by-category description indicates, the collection is a varied mixture of local records, not a full archive of town/city government to 1900. Some categories are rich in sources for Burlington history; others contain only a few folders of scattered material. Certainly any researchers who use the collection should check at City Hall for additional papers of interest.
