Scope and Content

The collection primarily consists of negatives taken by Earl Cross depicting Vermont covered bridges ca. 1940 (a date supplied by the Underhill Historical Society). These have been arranged by the photographer, by county and town and fill seven small boxes (6" X 5" X 5"). Approximately thirty black and white photographic prints, mostly 8" X 10" in size, have been created from the negatives. A handful of photographic prints from unidentified sources are included. The images show the bridges both in situ and with close-ups of architectural details. The collection contains a small box of color commercial postcards depicting Vermont covered bridge scenes. Also present are a folder's worth of research notes and drawings, presumably authored by Cross, and a map showing the locations of covered bridges throughout the state of Vermont. The collection bears the accession number 10,934.
