Background Note
The Rutland Chamber of Commerce, formerly the Merchants Association of Rutland (1898-1902) and the Rutland Businessmen's Association (1912-1920), was founded on March 16, 1920, and presently continues activities in the Mead building in Rutland, Vermont. The Chamber's primary concern is the business and industrial development of the Rutland area. During its seventy years of service, the Chamber has sponsored many innovative cultural and recreational programs, including the Rutland Bicentennial Celebration (1961) and the Winter carnival (1951-1962).
Scope and Content Note
The Rutland Chamber of Commerce collection contains correspondence, minutes of meetings, notes, publications, scrapbooks, and other papers which serve to document the activities of the Chamber. The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject, with organizational records collected in carton one and scrapbooks placed at the end (carton 5).
