Scope and Content Note

The collection contains correspondence, photographs, bound volumes and various printed materials. The papers consist primarily of Wells family correspondence between Arthur and his brothers: George Frederick Wells, and Methodist pastor (whose diaries and other material were given to Cornell University), Leon Wells, retired town clerk of Bakersfield, Oscar Wells, a retired Methodist minister, and Dr. Wesley R. Wells, a retired psychology professor at Syracuse University. There is also correspondence between Arthur and his son, Lynford L. Wells, former superintendent of North Country Union High School, and daughter Mrs. Dorothy Plante of Keene, N.H., Mrs. Ruth Baxter of Dedham, Mass., and Mrs. Esther Kenney of Franklin, Mass.

There are noticeable gaps in the papers with the major portion of the collection covering the years 1950-1954 and 1960-1961. The collection has been arranged chronologically with the bound volumes shelved next to the papers.
