Again I seat myself to write you a few lines and I find that as I gain strength that it comes eazyer. This morning I am feeling pretty well and am seated at the table writing old fashion I am able to sit up the greater part of he time and walk about the house. Though this jaundice is very slow to get rid of and I dont expect to get smart very fast and if I am able to get down to camp in 10 days I shall be pleased Col. Stannard came up here yesterday and said he had recd a telegraph dispatch from Father inquiring how I was

and if it would be advisable to have you come and take care of me. I told him he need not answer the dispatch for before that time you had got my letters and knew of my getting better. I now take only jaundice bitters 3 times a day and this is all the medicine I require I sleep well nights and am pretty lazy I tell you in the morn, Sgt Whitmore sent me the letters you wrote him, and I got a letter from Lester. I have not heard from you since I got the draft. I got that cashed and gave Mrs. Snow $10- of it yesterday I have to pay a Dollar per day for my & my mans board but as I am getting smart I shall let him go back to Camp for I am about able to take care of myself now.

I would like much to spend these lonesome days under my own roof with my little Family around me but such is my fate and there is no use of wishing or hoping. I tell you Maria that I can realize the value of a loving wife and a sweet home now more than ever before and may God grant that if ever we are permitted to live again together that I may be a more faithful Husband and endeavour more to make our little home happy for you and the children. I must close as this is the last chance I will get to send the letter to the Office I will write often and not so long. I shall expect to get a letter from you this afternoon.

With much Love I remain your Affectionate Husband V.G. Barney
