I take this opportunity to write a few lines to you to let the folks know that I am well &c. We left Montpelier on Saturday at ten o’clock A.M. and arrived at Springfield at eleven P.M. where the good people gave us a verry good supper and then we left for New Haven where we arrived at 4 O’clock A.M. Sunday. We took the boat from there for Jersy City and had a very plesant voige. I enjoyed the journey very much indeed. When we arrived at Philadelpha they had a nice supper all ready for us and we done good servace to it to

We arrived at Washington on Monday night at about 8 o’clock where we stoped until Wednesday when we marched about two miles and camped on Prospect Hill, on Thursday we struck our tents and marched about 14 miles to camp Griffin where we are at present. We are in Smith’s Brigade with the VT 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th so you see we are all together. I find a good many old friends here and they were glad to see me too. Fletcher sends his best respects to all the folk. Eb Sibley is getting better he came over and see us this morning. The third Rig. made us some coffee and gave us a very good supper when we came in last night

Our camp is situated in Virginia about four miles from Chain Bridge but we expect to advance in two or three days The Rigs in this place are in the best of spirits and ready for fight. We live very well so far Excuse me for not writing more at present. give my love to all the folks and a kiss for Carrie. I have so many letters to write that the folks at home must not expect to here from me more than once a week at least Tell Mary that I will write to her next. Tell father that I received my pay from the State

before I left Montpelier So that I did not receive need the dollar which he sent to me but I did not have an opportunity to scend it back, so I will us it to pay the postage on letters home
