VERMONT EQUAL SUFFRAGE ASSOCIATION
OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN OF RATIFICATION
MRS. LILIAN H. OLZENDAM
WOODSTOCK VERMONT

November 21, 1919
Member Vermont Legislature
Dear Sir:

Do you realize that among the 19 states which have
already ratified the Federal Suffrage Amendment are Maine,
New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York, Vermont’s
neighbor states, and also that 16 more states have
promised to ratify before February, 1920?

Do you realize that unless Vermont has a special
session for the purpose of ratifying the Amendment our
state will again stand in the position of being dictated
to by N. H. amd N. Y. thru having to accept the Amendment
as part of the law of the land, and which cannot be set
aside or abrogated by any law or constitution of any
state?

We are asking the members of the legislature to sign
a petition to Governor Clement urging him to call a
special session, and we feel that you will want to help
to uphold the fair name of Vermont by adding your name to
those of the majority of both Houses which have already
been secured.

Please sign enclosed slip and return in enclosed
stamped envelope as soon as possible.

Very truly yours,
Lilian H. Olzendam
Chairman of Ratification

I do not approve of asking the Governor to call a special session
but should he do so will attend
Edwin D. Moore
