Washington D.C.Feb 4th 1864My dear Wife,

Page 1

I have just arrived after riding all night. I have endured the journey very well, am suffering some with a headache which I suppose is caused by the loss of sleep. The incidents of the trip I will give you when I get into Camp. I have just seen Skiff, and we are going to Camp together tomorrow. I shall have lots of news to tell you. The weather is very warm and beautiful. No snow south of Springfield Mass. Give my love to our dear children, and accept a whole heart for your dearself.

Yours EverJ.C. Rutherford

Have not seen George yet.
