Strafford, Vt. Oct. 22, 1888
My dear Sir:
I did not promise last year
and do not now promise to continue a sub-
scription to the Century College fund, but I
see the year has revolved and you are no
better as to funds than before and therefore
I send my check of [$]50.00 to aid in that
direction. I notice that the insane legislation
of two years ago has sadly crippled the surplus
of the State Treasurer and the Watchman is
making it tell for all it is worth against the
idea of any aid
to
the Vt u. & State ag. college.

I suppose the paper has some power among
the farmers, and I wish it could have some-
thing of the intelligent broad-mindedness
of its old proprietors -- the Waltons.
This needs no answer.
Very truly yours
Justin S. Morrill
Hon. G.G. Benedict,
