I will write you a line or so now as I have a little spare time. But remember this is to you and not to a number of school-girls whom you may chance to show my mud-turtle to, it will not be an advertising, I took it from one of Carrie's drawings she had for the Kindergarden to learn the [Noodlers] to spell mud & also turtle.

I guess you will think I am hard off for news & so I am. I have been to work all the

forenoon, cleaned my room all up, done my washing, did Mrs. Freeman's breakfast dishes & studied an hour or so.

Johnson, Vt.Sept. 19, '85.Dear Mamma:-

You wanted me to go in & see Mrs. Demirit I went last night, she said that shawl would be just right for a common wrap but not enough for two. she also said four yards of that flannel you spoke of would be enough for me a dress, seven a great plenty for both of us. Mr. Freeman would like to have you send her up about 20# of butter if you can this next week, if she has to pay .50 [cent symbol] a lb. No more at present. News is scarce.
